How to add an XML sitemap to your restaurant website

There is no sitemap, so Google has to find your menu and location pages by following links — and sometimes it doesn’t.

Why it matters

A sitemap is a plain list of every page you want in Google. It matters most for the pages that aren’t linked from your homepage, like a catering page or a second location.

How to fix it

  1. Check whether your builder already makes one — try yoursite.com/sitemap.xml.
  2. If not, save the file below as sitemap.xml at the root of your site and add every page.
  3. Submit it in Google Search Console under Sitemaps.

The code

This is the fix our audit generated for a sample restaurant. Run the audit on your own site and the fix pack fills in your name, address, phone and hours for you. Anything in CAPITALS is a value we couldn’t find — fill it in, never guess.

xml
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<urlset xmlns="http://www.sitemaps.org/schemas/sitemap/0.9">
  <url>
    <loc>https://www.tacoselpuente.example/</loc>
    <lastmod>2026-09-23</lastmod>
  </url>
</urlset>

Where it goes: Save as sitemap.xml at the root of your site, then submit it in Search Console.
